Designer Story
My connection to linen began at a young age. I was drawn not only to its natural beauty but also to the remarkable history behind the fabric. As I explored the origins of linen, I discovered its deep connection to ancient civilisations, particularly Ancient Egypt, where linen was treasured for its purity, strength and elegance.
I was fascinated by how the Egyptians draped linen around the body, creating garments that were both graceful and functional. The simplicity and fluidity of these early forms of dress became a powerful source of inspiration for my own design approach.
Linen has a unique relationship with the body. It breathes, moves and softens with time, creating a natural harmony between the garment and the wearer. I have always loved the way linen feels on the skin, light, comfortable and quietly luxurious.
Through SAWRAP, I explore the beauty of linen through bespoke garments that celebrate craftsmanship, movement and individuality. Each piece is carefully designed and made to measure, allowing the wearer to experience linen in a way that is both personal and timeless.
My work is inspired by the past, but created for the modern individual who values thoughtful design, natural materials and garments that are made to last.
About the designer
I am a London-based fashion designer who grew up in the Caribbean of Jamaica, where I saw my mom and auntie working as seamstresses. Inspired by their work, my passion and love for fashion and textiles developed from an early age. I started studying the subject at secondary school and furthered my knowledge in Pattern Cutting and Grading, Garment Construction, and embraced Machine Embroidery as a specialism.
I have a Master's Degree in Creative Pattern Making, a BA(Hons) in Fashion Design and Production.
I'm a certified fashion designer passionate about creating bespoke, made-to-measure linen clothing for men and women. I specialise in both manual and digital patternmaking, using tools such as CLO 3D, Gerber, and Adobe Creative Suite to bring high-quality, timeless designs to life.
In addition to my work in fashion, I’m also a qualified educator with a PGCE Level 7 and QTLS, teaching Levels 1 to 3 in further education. I’m deeply committed to providing an inclusive, diverse, and engaging approach to teaching that supports learners from all walks of life. I also integrate digital tools like Microsoft Teams and OnFile to enhance the learning experience.
Whether I’m in the studio or the classroom, my goal is always the same: to empower others through creativity, craftsmanship, and education.

About my brand
SAWRAP is my fashion label, named to reflect my personality and the places I grew up in - Jamaica.
The word SAWRAP is a combination of initials from my daughter and my own name and was established in 1998, a time when I was deliberating to open a womenswear garments construction school in Jamaica.
The image of the hummingbird is part of my logo, as it is my island's national bird and a reflection of our colourful culture.
Sawrap is where timeless linen design meets modern craftsmanship. Born from a love for texture, tailoring, and individuality, each piece is made-to-measure with care — for both men and women who value effortless elegance.
Behind every design is a commitment to sustainability, slow fashion, and inclusive beauty. With a deep understanding of both traditional and digital techniques, Sawrap blends artistry and innovation to deliver garments that truly wrap you in style.
History
In 2017, I took part in the Croydon School of Art fashion exhibition for final year BA Fashion students. Where I displayed my first collection.
