What We Offer

Alton Fashion Futures CIC delivers practical, hands-on workshops in fashion design and pattern making for young people and adults in the Enfield area. Our sessions combine creative skills development with employability support, helping participants build confidence, technical understanding, and awareness of career pathways within the fashion and creative industries. Workshops are inclusive, supportive, and designed for beginners, with no prior experience required.

Introduction to Fashion Design & Pattern Making

An introductory session exploring fashion drawing, dart manipulation, and drafting a basic skirt block.

Who it’s for:
Young people and adults interested in creative skills and employability.

What participants will learn

  • Fashion drawing basics

  • Dart manipulation

  • Drafting a basic skirt block

  • Drafting a bodice block

  • Drafting a trousers block.

  • Drafting a sleeve block

Dart Manipulation & Garment Structure

This activity introduces participants to the process of shaping garments to the body using darts. Learners explore the purpose of darts, grain line, and ease, and how small changes affect fit and design. Through guided demonstrations and practical exercises, participants learn to move and reshape darts to create various garment styles.

Skills gained:

  • Understanding garment structure

  • Precision and measurement skills

  • Following step-by-step technical processes

Pattern Drafting – Basic Blocks

Participants learn how to draft core pattern blocks used across the fashion industry, including the skirt, trousers, bodice, and sleeve blocks. Using accurate measurements and pattern-making tools, learners are guided through each stage of the drafting process. This activity builds technical confidence and introduces industry-standard methods used by pattern cutters and garment technologists.

Skills gained:

  • Accurate measuring and drafting

  • Pattern-making fundamentals

  • Attention to detail and technical accuracy

Fashion Drawing & Career Pathways

This activity combines creative expression with employability awareness. Participants explore basic fashion drawing techniques to communicate design ideas, followed by a guided discussion about the wide range of career pathways within the fashion and creative industries. Roles such as designer, pattern cutter, garment technologist, studio assistant, retail specialist, and digital creative are introduced.

Skills gained:

  • Visual communication and creativity

  • Understanding fashion industry roles

  • Increased confidence and career awareness
